The origins of Opalians date back to 1887, when Louis Marette founded in Paris a company initially dedicated to the disinfection of hospital bedding, before structuring its expertise around conservation and post-mortem services. 1978, the company becomes Hygeco, it opened a subsidiary in Spain in 1992 and accelerated its development.

In 2025, the group adopts the name Opalians in order to unify its activities and brands, while remaining consistent with its heritage Hygeco.
